Best cream or lotion to treat a dog allergy rash?

My 3 yr old Weimaraner has an allergy rash on his belly. We took him to the vet for an antihistamine shot on Weds, and back again yesterday to pick up some shampoo the vet prescribed. This has soothed the rash slightly, but it is still quite red and sore in places. The vet said we could also put some cream on to soothe it. What would people recommend for this - i've heard calamine lotion is good, but is there anything else people have had success with? Also, would you get a ';lampshade'; collar to stop him licking until it healed?

Advice appreciated, Many Thanks!Best cream or lotion to treat a dog allergy rash?
You could try calamine lotion. It is pinkish in colour, very cooling %26amp; soothing %26amp; it's safe for kids %26amp; babies. Tea tree oil is also good %26amp; it has a very strong disgusting smell so the dog will not lick the affected parts although some will. Another one is rice powder. I don't know if your country sells it but chinese ladies use this traditional powder to bring down the pimples on their face. All you have to do is to just add water to it %26amp; it will turn into a liquid form %26amp; you can apply it on the dog. It's absolutely safe because it's just rice powder. I've tried all of these stuff %26amp; they work well for my dogs. If the rashes are bad %26amp; bloody then it's advisable to put on the lampshade but if it's just a minor rash, then there's no need to. But it's up to you.

ADD: If you're going to apply any of these lotions I mentioned, make sure you put them in the fridge to make them cold because when it is cold, it brings down the swelling %26amp; rashes even faster. Ice cubes also help but that would give your dog a shock.Best cream or lotion to treat a dog allergy rash?
My dog had an allergy rash and I got antibiotics and steriods from the Vet. After it she kept licking herself making her belly red and raw and the Vet said that if they have had an itch before they can get in the habit of licking and licking and you need to break the cycle. She got a lampshade and again more antibiotics and steriods. It seems to do the trick! She now rarely licks but if I catch her I give out and she knows to stop :)
try the link below, I have seen this have amazing results on a friends dog.

If he is licking and scratching then yes get the e. collar for him.

I would as your vet to recommend a cream. Some creams could cause further allergy problems, so let your vet tell you which one.
E45 or something similar that is perfume free
